Heart cookies to make with children

My niece Paula already knows what she has when she comes to see me at home. We wash our hands, we put on our hats and we are ready to cook. On this occasion we have prepared some heart-shaped cookies to make with children and we have taken them as a gift to his mother, my sister. It goes without saying that we had a lot of fun.

Cookies are a version of a recipe for butter cookies Xavier Barriga They are great for cutting because they hold the shape very well both during handling and during baking and that is why we have chosen them to do with children.

Ingredients for about 30 cookies

  • For cookies: 200 g of butter in ointment, 75 g of glass sugar, 1 small egg, 300 g of flour and a pinch of salt
  • For the decoration glaze: 1 egg white and 150 g of sugar glass

How to make heart cookies with children

We mix the butter in ointment (at room temperature after about 20 minutes it will be with that texture), with the sugar and when it is more or less homogeneous, we add the flour, the egg and the salt. The we work to form a ball.

When I do them with my niece, I take care of kneading everything in a bowl and when the dough can be worked well, I let her work it. So I passed the dough to my niece who with three years already he has fun clapping the dough, testing some raw dough and stretching it with the roller. Before cutting the cookies, it is good to store the dough in the fridge so that it hardens and so the cookies retain their shape well.

Then comes the funniest thing: she uses the cutters and little by little and with my help, she takes out all the cookies. He likes that part a lot. Then we bake the cookies on an oven paper at 175º for about 20 minutes until golden brown. We let them cool on a rack.

For the decoration, we beat the white with the sugar and obtain a bright white paste. If we want, we can dye it with food coloring. With a teaspoon, let's go pI turn the icing on half of each heart. In half an hour in the fridge, they will be ready to store or consume.
