How can that head go through the birth canal?

Not all parents can see it, because not all births are vaginal, but many of us have had the chance to see our children born and, one of the questions that many of us ask ourselves when we see them leave is: How can that head go through the birth canal?

Because if the mere fact of seeing a tiny person born, after forming inside the womb of his mother, seems a miracle, the fact that he manages to leave seems another miracle, because babies are born with a head of a perimeter medium 33-35 cm.

In the birth canal, everything is very flexible

The reason that a baby can be born after becoming big inside the uterus is the flexibility of both your head and the birth canal.

Women have contractions, one after the other, whose mission is to dilate and dilate the cervix to allow the baby to leave. All the tissues of the birth canal are elastic and are prepared to support the increase in size as the baby leaves.

Moreover, the only bone there is, the coccyx has a certain degree of mobility and when the baby goes down, it goes back (the coccyx) so as not to make the delivery difficult. This mobility, of course, is possible when there is nothing behind it, such as a bed or stretcher in case of lying down (come on, this happens if the woman is squatting or standing, if not, difficult to happen).

The baby's head is also very flexible

Babies, to put their part, have a little head full of bones not yet welded between them (and it’s not accurate either, because they are not yet bones per se). Those of us who have seen our children born can be told of course: the first thing that comes out is the head, but doesn't look like the head.

It does not look like the head, because it looks like an amorphous mass with hair, rough, but that does not have the round shape of a head, but a more indeterminate form. This is because the bones, or rather, the plates of membranous tissue that in the future will be bones, have the ability to overlap each other, creating a shape that can fit into the birth canal.

Minutes later, when it finally comes out, it seems that everything returns to its place, everything is repositioned and the head suddenly looks like a real head. So we thought that how strange, that when we saw him coming out, it seemed that our son came with some cranial malformation and immediately this thought is taken from our minds because what matters most to us is to see that it is precious, that you are already father and that from now on you have a new tiny person in your care, in your care.
