Have the ability to connect and make a consult the pediatrician through the computer It sounds like a science fiction movie, but it isn't.
It is a pioneering project of pediatric telemedicine which has been launched at the Gregorio Marañón hospital in Madrid, thanks to which some patients can see a doctor without leaving home.
The transfer and the waiting time are thus avoided, something that is especially appreciated when there are small children involved. Instead, the time is set and you connect from home.
It is not done with all patients. Obviously, in most consultations the doctor needs to explore the child and for that there is no virtual system that is worth it.
It is a service designed, for the moment, for chronic patients, for discharged patients who need 24-hour follow-up, such as premature babies, and to give diagnostic test results. Sometimes you have to lose a morning or an afternoon just to be told that the child's analytics went well.
It is a system that already works to make consultations from schools or nurseries to the hospital, or from a health center to a more specialized one, but it is the first time it is done from home.
With the rush we have on a day-to-day basis, it would be great if the project has good acceptance and is extended to other hospitals and centers to be able to do Pediatrician consultations via computer.
