International Day of the Girl: women and mothers of tomorrow

Today, October 11, the International Girl's Day, a special date to remember that today's girls will be the women and mothers of tomorrow.

Childhood is the time to sow the seeds of what they will be when they are adults and if they choose, mothers too. The values we instill in them as parents, but also the experiences they have in these years are key to their future.

International Girl's Day

This year is celebrated for the second time, after having been promoted by the International Plan organization and approved in 2011 by the United Nations General Assembly. The theme of this edition is "Innovate for girls' education", focused on the right to education of girls as a tool for progress.

The International Day of the Girl aims to raise awareness about the harsh reality that girls live in developing countries, where the little ones are the most vulnerable, victims of sexual abuse and violence, forced into early marriages forced, marginalized and discriminated against by the Just being girls.

These girls have dreams and aspirations, as do our girls and the rest of the girls in the world, no matter where they were born.

And what happens if we turn our eyes to our first world? They live in a more favored world, they lack nothing, they are strong and determined, as much or more than boys, but our girls are also vulnerable. They are victims of situations, in their own way also worrisome such as fashion, sexual stereotypes or childhood hypersexualization.

Both in those disadvantaged countries and in the rest of the world, the mission is to strengthen their abilities and skills so that girls are in the future autonomous and empowered women, as well as involving boys to generate real change.

I believe that our generation is managing to break the mandates that we have inherited and we can assure you that what "To educate a boy is to educate a man, to educate a girl is to educate a family" fortunately it is no longer so.

As the mother of three girls I dream, and together with her father we put everything of us, so that tomorrow they are good, free women, fight for their happiness and that if they decide to start a family they get to be loving and respectful mothers of needs of their children. That's why they and all the girls, Happy International Day of the Girl!
