Is children's creativity also in crisis?

A study by William and Mary University conducted in 2010 and which analyzed 300,000 creativity tests since the 70s, shows that the creativity of the boys has diminished in the last years and that, especially since the 90s, young people have less ability to produce unique and unusual ideas, have less sense of humor and their imagination has also diminished.

Apparently the causes of this progressive reduction have to do with the ability we are having to stimulate it, to empower it and to develop it. And it is that all experts indicate that creativity is innate and therefore, although it will not disappear, it does require care, pampering and facilitating its development. We already mentioned this option recently in the video interview we had with Creative Attitude and in which there was a lot of emphasis on allowing children to have the ability to choose.

And it is that the school has reduced the creative capacity because it simply tells the children to choose the right option from a series of answers. In addition it seems that children have been building a routine in which they are always busy and are not allowed to play and develop the imagination. Perhaps what Spectrum could mean for a generation in Spain in the 80s was that we discovered a lot of possibilities that we are still adopting and using today.

In addition, the report explains that although teachers do not teach creativity Yes, they have to make it easier for students to develop it. That is why it is very important that they involve the kids in exercises in which they do not know the question-answer a priori and do not devote themselves to satisfying the teacher's requirements only as a defense mechanism. Creativity, although it gives a bit of vertigo from certain ages, it is very important that it is stimulated in the classroom and that it develops outside it.

Perhaps this economic crisis serves as an adjustment to this fall of imagination and adequate conditions can be given for our children to develop creativity and obtain new ways of realizing their dreams and desires.
