"Genpin", a Kawase documentary about natural childbirth

Since I heard about the presentation at the last San Sebastian festival of Naomi Kawase documentary "Genpin" I've been trying to see it. I finally got it. And I assure you that it is a true wonder in some moments and in others to awaken my alerts about the necessary balance between natural attention and safety. But it is worth it.

In the film, gynecologist Tadashi Yoshimura It shows how he attends childbirth, with enormous respect for the moment of birth as a part of the flow of existence. The director shows us the women who give birth to Dr. Yoshimura, talking about their feelings and happy to be able to give their children life in this natural way.

In the press conference that was in the presentation in San Sebastian of the tape the director explained her position on the natural birth that he wanted to reflect in his work.

Only 2% of doctors let women decide, the rest decide if they have a C-section or any other aspect of childbirth. What Dr. Yoshimura does, no other doctor does. But I do not speak of Yoshimura with the idea of surprising the public with something unusual, but to convey to people that there are other ways of carrying out the birth, and that women should be able to choose. As seen in the film, women who have followed this type of natural birth feel happy and grateful for having been able to have their children in that way. I do not pretend that all women give birth in this way, only that there is a different way to do it. I bet on balance, knowing that there are different paths, combining them and making a good balance.

This beautiful documentary titled "Genpin" It is hoped that one day it will be available for everyone to enjoy in the commercial rooms, although the distribution of this type of work is complicated and it ends up searching the internet for ways to get them. I hope it serves to make the reflection on the closest and most understandable natural birth, always using our critical spirit to understand that a natural birth should not be denying the safety and use of medical techniques if necessary.
