Frozen ovum and sperm baby is born

There are fewer and fewer impediments to bringing babies into the world through assisted fertilization techniques.

Freezing has meant a breakthrough in reproductive medicine, which is constantly evolving.

A few months ago we knew of a baby born from a cryopreserved embryo for 13 years, when it was believed that the limit was five years.

Today we know that a few days ago the second baby was born in the United States, after the first case happened in Australia last year, which has born from fertilization of a frozen egg and sperm.

The 36-year-old mother, who has her tubes blocked, had her eggs removed and after four months they were fertilized by sperm from a donor that was preserved at -196 degrees. A single embryo was implanted that has prospered successfully.

The sample is Noah Peter who was born with almost 3 kilos.

It was known that it was possible to achieve pregnancies with frozen sperm as well as with frozen ovules, but it remained to be confirmed if a gestation was possible when both gametes had been frozen.

The answer is yes. That life always makes its way with the invaluable help of science.

Although I will not deny that so much progress overwhelms me a little.
