Handbook of Vaccines for Parents: proven, scientific and truthful information on vaccines

Vaccines save between two and three million lives each year and is recognized as the most effective health intervention after water purification. A measure of prevention that we have available to parents to protect our children from fatal diseases.

But there are many myths (unfounded and without scientific support) that are known about vaccines. Contradictory information that circulates on the internet or has been told by someone we know and that can confuse some parents. To give us proven, scientific and truthful information about vaccines, the Spanish Society of Outpatient Pediatrics and Primary Care (Sepeap) has published a Handbook of Vaccines for Parents which aims to serve as a reference and resolve all doubts that parents may have about them.

Belén Aguirrezabalaga, pediatrician of the Montevil de Gijón Health Center and coordinator of the SEPEAP Vaccine Working Group explains why they have found it necessary to create this publication:

"The Information Society in which we live floods us with contradictory information, everyone is in a position to publish their opinions and sometimes even publish information without contrasting. The Scientific Societies, doctors and researchers who know the subject are in the obligation to provide our knowledge, proven, researched and truthful to be a reliable opinion that parents can turn to. Therefore we wanted to prepare this manual "

He Immunization Manual for Parents (which you can download here in pdf) was prepared by the Vaccine Working Group (VACAP) and contains from basic information about each of the vaccines, the diseases they prevent, the possible adverse effects, as well as what we should consider in travel case or if our child has not followed the normal vaccination schedule, among other things. It also has information on vaccination in pregnancy and lactation.

Without a doubt, one of the most interesting parts is "Responding to parents' questions about vaccination" with direct answers from pediatricians to the most common questions that parents ask them in the consultation.

A publication that you must not stop consulting if you have any questions. You have it available here:
