Taking omega 3 in pregnancy would reduce colds in babies

The beneficial effects of Omega 3, essential fatty acid, for the complete development and functioning of the human brain are known. Its advantages are also known, among other things, against depression in pregnancy. Now a recent investigation has found that taking omega 3 in pregnancy would reduce colds in babies.

They have discovered that when women take a supplement of omega 3 docosahexaenoic acid (ADH) during pregnancy, their babies have fewer cold and illness symptoms.

At the ages of one and three months, about 38 percent of babies exposed to ADH in the womb experienced flu symptoms, compared with about 45 percent of babies whose mothers took a placebo.

They think maybe "It is too early to recommend the routine use of ADH supplements for pregnant women, but it is safe for pregnant women to take the supplement".

It is not necessary to take supplements if a balanced diet is maintained. Omega 3 fatty acids are obtained from blue fish, but there are also other alternatives to fish to take omega 3. Some foods rich in omega 3 are also dairy preparations, eggs and cookies enriched with omega 3, flax seeds, the nuts.

In recent months the alarm went off for the consumption of fish in pregnancy due to the excess of mercury accumulated by some fish such as bluefin tuna and the emperor, but there are other fish that can be consumed in pregnancy in moderation.
